Birds of india: Pavo cristatus

Pavo cristatus, or commonly called the Indian peafowl, is the national bird of India. In many parts of the country, it is protected for religious reasons.

This bird is famous for his courtship display. The male wears his beautiful colored feather tail, that he displays in a fan-like crest in order to seduce the female. Males have a metallic blue crown, while females have a simpler “outfit”.
